Hi – Since the creator of this site Tonya Sue Carther just passed away – we are in bit of a re-organization mode.

My name is Kit and I will be pinch-hitting until Kim, Tonya Sue’s sister and I figure out the next step. Tonya Sue has links to many different places on this site for places and way to get and ask for help. But here is a link to be able to help real out to other women and families specifically about Breast Cancer and how to cope. It is a forum format, so you or she or both would register and that would give you a chance to join the conversation.

This service is free of charge, and there seems to be a great deal of information, but more importantly, it will give you a chance to connect and talk to others going through the same thing.

  6. Danette Comeaux April 8, 2013 at 2:19 am #

Hello, my name is Danette Comeaux, and I am lost, I don’t no what to do, I am still in disbelieve. I moved from California to Virginia to start a new life, I was on a down hill looking at becoming homeless. I was very happy about my new life, and was getting ready to start a new job after looking for years in Los Angeles. Now after finding out that I have breast cancer with a small tumor that making my life hell, and informing my new employer of my problem and I realizing I will not be able to wait on tables he told me not to come back. I am looking at becoming homeless anyway, you see I just have bad luck all the way around, so now I have breast cancer, I am dyslexic, so I can’t be anything but a server or a house cleaner. So, I am asking how to get help with my rent, I only have two weeks left. Please point me in the right direction.

    Hi Danette,

I am so sorry to hear that you are facing housing issues in the midst of cancer treatment. Unfortunately, financial struggles, especially for cancer patients, are becoming the reality for many these days. Our family faced the very same issues when I was in active treatment for breast cancer at age 27. Our now 4 year old was 16 months old at the time. Out of fear and desperation, I turned to searching on Google. We were very fortunate to receive assistance from various small not-for-profits. Their kindness literally saved us from default on student loans and mortgage, foreclosure, and bankruptcy.

I know from experience that there are many fantastic organizations out there…it’s just that finding the help that you need during cancer treatment is a stressful exercise in exhaustion and frustration.

I hope that will ease some of that stress and frustration by making relevant information easy to find and easy to use.

Here are some links to get you started:

Please let me know how things work out.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers,
