Hi! My mom is a breast cancer patient, she got her left breast removed and the good thing is that she is cancer free. But the problem she is facing after the surgery is to look the same. She is very concious of her looks. Specialy her breast and her hair. I wanted to know is there a place in new York or new jersey from where I can get her the special bras made for such patients and what can she Do for her hair which have grown back but not the same they are much thinner.
Thanks

My mother in law had a masectomy of her left brest in the late 90′s she has now passed from lung cancer she has dozens of bras and some of the boobs. The family does not want to throw them out thinking we can donate to some cause to help the less fortunate. I live in ohio so was hoping something close but will ship if needed not sure on size will half to look over that info and get back on that but most of them are un used still in packages and boxes. Can u please email me back with some info on where these can be donated. Thanks

28 admin April 22, 2013 at 1:58 am

Thank you for the donation. We will email you the address to send tomorrow and see that they get to the right people. A list of sizes would be helpful, if you could list those sizes as a ‘comment’ reply, that would let people know of the availability. We appreciate!

hello,
I have been looking online this morning for advice for my cousin who lives in the Minneapolis area.
She had a single mastectomy 3 years ago and could not afford reconstruction. She lived in Kansas at the time and was able to get surgery but not reconstruction through Kansas programs since she has no health insurance. Her husband works two part time jobs without insurance. Now they live in Minnesota and still no insurance. She went to the local ACS unit and they have used prosthesis and bras to give away, but she shared with me the experience if putting a used breast against her skin and I cried for her. I was fortunate to have had a lumpectomy in 1991 and so I can relate to the fear of cancer and the pain of surgery in an area which so affects us as women and our self esteem. I think it is wonderful that people donate used bras, etc; but think about it….used prosthesis is not a joyful thing to experience.
She has called ACS in Minn. but they have no programs which she can use. Could you please give me some advice. I want to help her, without her feeling shame and discouragement.
There is so much money spent to research cancer but not enough programs to help women feel better after they have surgery, chemo, and or radiation.

I have a good friend who had a single mastectomy while back. She wants a bra to fit. Her name is Rosa very sweet lady since her husband died last summer since then she has come to me several times wanting me to help her. She is only 62 i believe , she has no insurance of any kind, very limited income. I Vol with Pink Heals but since she is cancer free now, not that they don’t want to help but are trying to help the ladys who are actively fighting cancer. So i really feel the need to help her but would like the resources to help someone else.
Her husband was the asst fire chief with the Vol fire dept i Vol at so i not only was choose to him but have become close to her.
Thank you

Stage 4 breast cancer would love t take family on vacation

32 Cancer Resource Mama July 25, 2013 at 3:09 am

Hi Camma,

Cancer treatment is exhausting! You and your family definitely need a vacation from Planet Cancer.

Hopefully, the links on this page can get you started: http://www.cancerresourcemama.com/rest-and-relaxation/free-vacations/

My favorite is Little Pink Houses of Hope. My family and I went on one of their first retreats. It was the most relaxing, pampering week ever! I truly cannot say enough good things about Jeanine and the retreat volunteers.

Keep us posted!

All the best,

CRM

Hi! I work in an assisted living and there is a resident here that had a double mastectomy a few years back, she currently only owns one bra that has pads in it but it’s pretty much all worn out and barely hanging on by a thread, I really feel bad for her and wish I could help, I was wondering if maybe you all could give her some help , she doesn’t have any children , all she has is some nieces and nephews , if you can please email me some info on where I can obtain a bra for her. Thank you
