Hi Mike,

So sorry to hear of your situation, my heart goes out to you.

You need to continue what you are doing, and reach out to others for help. The key here in finding support, people to talk to and figure out a strategy for you next steps, is to look around locally.

Not to freak you out, but I can see by your IP address that you are somewhere in or around Munster, Indiana. There is a Cancer Support Facility that you should check out near you, called the Cancer Resource Centre - here is their website of programs:

http://www.cancerresourcecentre.com/programs.asp phone number 219-836-3349

As I mentioned before in this post, you need to come up with a strategy that is going to take you through the next phase of this. A plan will help you lay out your options, and through that give you a chance at having hope. Why don't you give those folks a call, and maybe you can arrange for a ride to the facility, or if nothing else, talk to them over the phone and they will certainly have numbers of local resources for you.

There is another possible resource in your area, Methodist Hospitals http://www.methodisthospitals.org/supportive-care-services.aspx

Good Luck and God Speed !

Hi Brian,

I am sorry to hear of your tough road. I read your comment and it broke my heart. Sending you prayers and good wishes. Someone must be looking out for you for you have to have made it this far. Have faith that things will work out. I hope your children find a way to open their hearts to you again.

I have leukemia CML. I was on gleevec untill it stoped working. Now I am on Tasigna. I dont wont to eat on this pill. I have to force my food down. Its like I am full.
My story starts adout 4 years ago. I had 10years in to a union job. I was 10 years in to a house payment and I just opened a skateboard shop for the kids in my town.
Then bam.. Cancer hit me,, wife left when I got real weak. She split befor she found out I had cancer. She said I was lazy..lol fooled her..lol I lost my house, lost the sk8 shop. Even let go of the best job I have ever had.
I moved to Alabama from cali. This is where my mom and dad retired to. I needed someone to help me. Thank you God for my family for without them I surly would of passed away.
It took 3 years to get filling better. When I say filling better it dont meen I was well. Side eff of my pills kick my but.
My gleevec pill quit working about a year ago and I went right back down hill again. I was putt on Tasigna. This chemotherapy pill has bad side eff. One of the side eff is lost of appetite. I lost 25p in the last 2 mouth.
I could use someones prayers here because I am becoming sick again. I can prove eveything I wrote. I dont lie!!! Not about this cancer inside of me.
Thing I need.
Prayer
A little love.
Money is something thats needed. I fill if I had a little extra money I could get more help. I do get s.s. But its not much. I do beleave god in some way blessed me and told me to write this. Now this I dont know why?. I dont beleave in free money at all. I worked my butt off for everything I lost..lol.
The sad parts about leaveing california.
When u leave u cant aford to move back. I have no family there now.
I had to leave my 2 bestfriends behind,,(my kids).. these kid where my life, now thay just think I am a run away dad. Thay really dont even talk to me anymore. That hurts. Thay just see my smiles and think I am fine. Heck I almost died again when my pill stoped working. I will alway love them anyway, even if thay never talk to me again.. Thanks for reading.

Hi Marcella,

I do not know of any at this time, but I have not really done much research on this particular subject. As I said in the previous replay to Catherine, I would be very open to the idea of using this site to help in this process, the privacy and geographic issues aside. Meaning where you live and where you are looking for a job. (regional, state, city)

If we can use this site to help, I would try and figure out a way for it to happen.

Best

I am wonder if you know of any cancer support groups that actually help survivors find employment. I was employed by my employer for 10 years and was laid off the day I finished treatment due to "the economy" here it is 3 years later and I still cannot find a job

Hi Catherine,

Currently, this site is just being run by one person at this time, and there is no budget. It is a labor of love in the memory of Tonya Sue Carther who created this site, and as a free resource to people who have cancer, have had cancer in the past, or have a loved one that is grappling with the collateral problems that cancer causes (financial, emotional, psychological).

If we had a budget to work with, I would be happy to consider your offer. :)

I am mulling over ideas as to how to extend this site to me more dynamic and useful, as the information is a bit scattered and disorganized at this time. I have also build out a Bulletin Board (BBS), but have not had the time to populate it with subject matter and user interface structure. I could use help with that, as well as an overall re-organization of the site. If you have any web programming skills and feel like doing some volunteering, I would consider that.

Also, any feedback of ideas for making the site more useful and functional, I am all ears.

One thing I have been considering is having a job posting area on the site, where people such as yourselves can post availability. Privacy issues are an important factor to consider though, so I have not moved forward.

Thank you for posting, I can be reached directly at: nak [at] scr4m [dot] com

I have gone thru my battle with breast cancer and I'm now seeking a job to pay my past medical bills. I have 15 years of excellent experience in Human Resources as an Associate. I would like to submit my resume for possible options because I'm very out going and apart of several committees. I am a widow and sugglings trying to manage house payments, other bills, medication and stay on top of things. Whatever assistances that could be provided would be appreciated.

Hi Dianna, Where are you located (generally), and would you like me to publish some sort of way for people to contact you through this site ?

One way to start on the process of getting the word out would be to create an account on LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/

Best

I am seeking employment to pay for my house and personal finances. I am a widow and have no means to pay my personal finances. I am open to any training. I have experience in office adminstration and managment but will be willing to train or work in any field to help meet my financial obligations and not lose my home as I have no where else to live. Thank you for any assistance that might be offered to me.
