4. Faith-Based Assistance:
Some resources in the Jewish community:
Zichron Shlome Refuah Fund, which is based in Brooklyn, NY, offers many services to Jewish cancer patients, including financial assistance
In the Orthodox Jewish community, there is a concept known as “gemach”, where people donate money, clothes, food, etc. to those who are in need. Please see below for the “Gemach” section on “Yiddele’s classifieds”

5. Assistance From Your Cancer Care Center:
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, has two forms of financial assistance. One financial assistance program is designed to assist patients with their in-patient and out-patient hospital bills. The other program assists patients with non-medical expenses, such as transportation and childcare.
Perhaps your treatment center has similar kinds of assistance available.
I hope that these resources will be of some help.
Thanks to M.S. ! Hope you are back in tune, soon !

I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in October 2009. I lost my job November 2009 and I’m still out of work. I have completed chemotherapy and radiation and currently taking tomoxiphen but I’m still waiting to have reconstructve surgery. The surgeon said that I can have reconstructive surgery before the end of this year, however: I have had two other surgeries this year and bills are getting farther and farther behind. I had a historectomy in January of this year and emergency surgery on my stomach six weeks ago. My disability does not cover all of my expenses and care for my two teenage children. Is there a program that will help pay some of my bills?

Hello my name is Mary Weathers and I’ve had cervical cancer at the age of 24 . I’ve been doing great until the end of 2012. I lost my job due to an abrusive relationship and relocated to to atlanta to get away but since i moved here i can’t seem to find a job, i looked and looked submitted resumes on top of resumes and to no avail. i have fibroylia and high blood pressure and suffering from menopause and have been for 31years. i wondering if there’s a free clinic or something i could go to to get my meds and to see a dentist. i’m not easy not by a long shot i’ve been working two jobs for the longest but not having insurance scares me because hospitals don;t treat you with respect and they don’t gibe you a through exam. please help if you can. GOD BLESS
2008 I left my job to care for my husband diagnosis with esophagus cancer, He died Jan 2009 I had complete medical benefits. Nov. 2009 I was diagnosis with stage 4 breast cancer. Having a radical mascetomy. My insurance that I was supposed to have had for life was discontinued by my deceased husbands company stating that they did not cover spouses any longer, I was then forced to pay $1000 a month that put me in financial hardship. March 2013 I have been served with property tax foreclosure can you advise.
I will reach out to someone who might be able to get something tangible, where are you located? State?

I am exhausted and my spirit is long gone. I have full blown Aids, after being HIV+ for 20 years. I also have numerous tumors of Cancer that have destroyed my quality of life. Along fighting AIDS I had to battle Kaposi’s Sarcoma, CMV Retinitis, which led to Cataracts, I am now legally blind. And today I am battling the destructive and vicious Lymph Node Cancer (Lymphedema). There is also the possibility of Amputation. I don’t know what I will do if that become reality.
When I am undressed I can not let myself look into any mirror reflecting back at me. I don’t recognize my own body anymore from the excruciating painful and uncomfortable transformation done to my body. I am devastated! Before all this Cancer, I was very proud of my body. I was a gym junkie. I worked out every day and cycled 30-50 miles a week.
Today, I now need special sized clothes to fit my swollen and deformed lower body. Special sized shoes to fit my swollen and abnormal extra wide feet and to add to all my grief, I now need to replace my 20 year old second hand furniture including furniture and bed. Is there any resources that can help me with these financial hardships?
