American Cancer Society
Many local chapters of the American Cancer Society (ACS) provide free wigs through their wig banks. In order to determine if a chapter near you is donating wigs, visit the official ACS office locator here.
The ACS has also teamed with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to distribute free wigs donated by the Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths campaign. Relying on ponytail donations from women across the country, the campaign creates the wigs and distributes them to ACS wig banks located across the country. If you are interested in obtaining a free wig, contact ACS at 1-877-227-1596.
CancerCare
CancerCare, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing completely free and professional support services to cancer patients and anyone affected by the disease, offers wigs at no charge. Take advantage of this service by contacting CancerCare here.
Duke Cancer Patient Support Program
The Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center offers a variety of support groups for patients at the hospital and within the local community. Among them is the Wig and Turban Program, which offers free wigs in various styles and colors, as well as turbans and hats (also provided at no charge to the patient).
The Duke program is just one example of hundreds of similar programs across the country (another is the University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Cancer Center Wig Bank Program).To find out if a facility near you offers a free hairpiece service, contact your local ACS chapter or community hospital for further information.
Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization
Women with limited resources can take advantage of the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization’s wig and prosthesis bank. This service provides up to 500 wigs annually to patients, along with wig care and styling tips and a 24 hour phone hotline. These services are made free thanks to the support of the organization’s donors. If you’re interested in receiving a free wig, contact Y-ME’s 24 hour hotline at 1-800-221-2141 to speak with a peer counselor.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Many local chapters of Susan G. Komen for the Cure offer wigs free of charge to patients. To find a Komen affiliate in your area, visit Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Affiliate locator.
Wigs for Kids
Children under the age of 18 are eligible to receive a wig free of charge from Wigs for Kids. This non-profit organization relies on the donation of ponytails to create wigs for children. To request a free wig, simply fill out the form located at http://www.wigsforkids.org/

My name is Maxine Guzman I am 19 Years old. I currently reside in West Covina Ca. I have been suffering from an unexplained condition which has been haunting me since I was in fifth grade. I suffer from Extensive Hair Loss. Ever since I was in middle school I recall always having to wear hair pieces ranging from Full Tracks/Full Weaves/general extensions. The lower part of my head which runs down my neck is completely bald. I hade very little hair, enough to help cover up some of the extensions. Most Recently I have had to start using Full cap Wigs. I have gone completely bald ranging from 100-120 hair follicles mostly on the top of my head. The average person has thousands. I have been on a continues mission from doctor to doctor, state to state and even out of country to help find some kind of treatment so I can at least have some what of a normal head of hair. I have given up all hope and I will have to continue to use wigs until I can try to gather enough money to see many more specialists to see what I can be assisted with. I am asking from the bottom of my heart to please help me, you may not know what it is like to be ridiculed and laughed at for being bald. I have gone into complete depression and complete isolation from the outside world because of this condition. I currently own just 2 Wigs because I cannot afford any more then that, as I have purchased the two for $200.00 a piece. Please help me with making a donation…..I am in desperate need of a new wig, as I am going to college next semester and I want to have a good head of hair on my shoulders so I can feel like a Young Women!!!

Hi, my name is Sherry. I am 44 years old. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in April, 2010. I have had a lumpectomy April 15th, then May 4th, I had a mastectomy. I have gone through 6 chemo treatments. I have lost all my hair. I have a hair piece that I got, thats all I could afford. I would like to get a full wig. There has been a few complaints at my work, cause I wear a bandana with the hairpiece. Can you please help me? I cannot afford to buy one. I have missed alot of work. I have been on medical leave again due to alot of sickness and infections, etc. Thank you very much.

Hi, my mother in law has cancer for the third time now in ten years this time in her lung. they are doing pretty harsh chemo on her a triple dose and so after her first session she has already lost her hair. She doesnt want a wig as she feels it will make her too hot and itchy but would love a nice light weight scarf. Is there anything you can do to help her. Right now her ssi is the only household income and so they are beyond being on a fixed income. Please let us know, it would be forever appreciated.
My name is Kelly and I just found out that I have advanced lymphoma. Apparently the fatique and swollen lymph nodes I had written off as Epstein Barr was indeed cancer. I am on disability for panic disorder and depression because I was a stay at home mom for more than twenty years and did not pay enough into the system. I never dreamed I would be on medicaid, SSI and 52 years old….and now cancer. I am beginning chemo next week and am so scared, and so depressed. The one bright spot is that I would like to wear a nice wig. That sounds fun to me, plus I am so tired and nauseated all the time I never feel like fixing my hair.
Is there a chance I could get help paying for a nice wig? Even some assistance? I hate asking for things, but I cannot stand to think about being bald AND sick.

Hello… My cousin Jenn is a 35 year old single mother of two small children. Late this past summer she was diagnosed with stage 3 Lymphoma cancer. She has been undergoing cemo therapy. I have been looking for any help sites that would help her and her children have a Christmas this year and for her to get a wig for free….being as her finances are extremely low due to all her hospital stays and surgeries. Mu good friends daught has leukemia and they took a pic of her today in her last ponytail. She’s not eating cause she’s finds her hair in her food so they are cutting here hair today. I would like to find her a wig and scarfs to get her through this, used or new. I have 3 daughters myself and cannot imagine watch she is going through. I’ve contacted wigs for kids and where there is hope. If anyone still have their old wigs and scarfs that has survived cancer please contact me if you are willing to donate them. Hi, my name is Tammy. My grandmother died of breast cancer, my aunt in Iowa is battling breast cancer for the 2nd time and now my mom was diagnosed in July. It has been so devastating for her because after watching her loved ones go through so much, the sad part is she knows whats ahead. I feel awful because we can not afford a wig. The medical cost is unbelievable, even with insurance it has taken all of our saving for surgery co-pays, her regular medications plus all of the missed work for both of us. The problem is I can not find a free wig. We are in Houston, Tx, a very large city. Its hard to believe I cant find any resources. If you know of any, please write. Her port is being put in on 8/9 her first of many chemos is 8/14. I would love to surprise her. She will still be working at her job through this due to money issues so this would be one less thing for her to worry about-it too is a life saving gift but you’d only know that if you didnt have your hair. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi my name is Tammy, I am 42 years old I live in KY. I suffer from Alopecia Totalis (Hair loss which occurs over the entire body, including the scalp, eyebrows etc..). I lost my hair when I was only a few weeks old, so I spent my life without any hair. It was hard not having any hair. I never wore wigs was never really interested in wearing them until after I graduated from High School, about 2 years after school in fact. I grew up self-conscience about how I looked. My parents couldn’t afford to buy me the kind of wigs that looked anything close to real hair back then. I started buying my own. They are great when you first get them but after awhile they start to loose shape and the hair starts falling out. I’ve never had the money to afford the type of wigs that you could swim in, ride rollercoasters in, just basically not worry that someone will hug you and the might fall off. I wanted to know if there are any programs out there to help me a really nice wig so that I can do things like go swimming with my kids and get on rides with. Help, any information would be nice.
